Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack Installation on a 2025 Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer is a full-size SUV that’s popular for driving in Calgary and weekend adventures across Alberta. With factory-raised rails, it’s rack-ready and easy to work with when paired with the correct components. For this installation, our expert installer, Brian, set up a Thule Evo system paired with WingBar Evo load bars. The result is a strong, clean base rack ready for carrying bikes, kayaks, cargo, and in this adventurer's case, two Thule Hullavator Pros.
Clean, Secure Fit on the Ford Explorer
This Explorer features factory-raised roof rails that run front to back along the roof. Because of this design, the rack system mounts using a clamping foot pack that securely wraps around the rails without needing a vehicle-specific fit kit.
The Thule Evo system with Rapid Crossroad foot pack provides a solid connection point while keeping installation straightforward. Once installed, the crossbars sit evenly across the roof, offering excellent strength and compatibility with a wide range of Thule accessories, not just the Thule Hullavator Pro.

What We Installed on This Ford Explorer
- Thule WingBar Evo 150 cm (60 inch) Silver Load Bars
- Thule Rapid Crossroad Oversized Foot Pack
- Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier (x2)
- Thule One-Key Lock System (8-Pack)
Why This Rack Setup Works for Calgary Drivers
- Simple and secure mounting on raised rails with no fit kit required
- Hullavator Pro provides lift-assist loading for heavy kayaks
- Wide 60 inch bars allow two Hullavator units side by side
- Built for Alberta adventures from lakes to mountain paddling trips

Important Fit Note: Hullavator Bar Requirements
Some vehicles, including the Ford Explorer, require specific bar lengths and clear overhang to safely run accessories like the Hullavator Pro. The 150 cm bars provide the necessary width and clearance for dual carriers, which is critical for proper operation.
Not sure if your vehicle can support dual Hullavators? Our team will confirm compatibility and spacing before recommending any setup.
Professional Installation by Our Calgary Team
This installation was straightforward thanks to the raised rail design, but the accessory setup adds time and precision. The base rack installs quickly, while each Hullavator Pro requires careful assembly and adjustment. Total install time was approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, with about 30 minutes spent assembling each Hullavator unit.
- Verified correct bar length and load capacity for dual kayak carriers
- Positioned bars for optimal Hullavator operation and clearance
- Checked side clearance for safe lowering and lifting motion
- Torqued all components to manufacturer specifications
