Thule Top Track Drill-In Roof Rack Installation on a Bare Roof Vehicle
Some vehicles come from the factory with no raised rails, fixed points, or mounting options of any kind. This build was one of those cases — a true bare roof with no standard solution available. In order to equip the vehicle with a functional and secure rack system, our Roof Racks Calgary team completed a custom drill-in installation using Thule Top Tracks paired with a Rapid Podium system and WingBar load bars.
Why a Drill-In Installation Was Required
With no factory mounting points and no raised rails, clamp-on or doorframe systems were not an option. The only safe and long-term solution was installing Thule Top Tracks directly into the roof. This creates a strong, permanent mounting channel that allows the use of Thule’s Rapid Podium feet and WingBars.
A drill-in installation requires patience, precision, and the right tools. Accurate placement is essential, and sealing each rivet correctly ensures long-term durability and prevents leaks.

Installation Notes & Important Considerations
Drill-in rack systems demand a careful and methodical approach. This install required slow, deliberate work, ensuring measurements were perfect and each hole was sealed properly before mounting the tracks.
- Measure at least twice before drilling — accuracy is essential for alignment and load distribution.
- Take your time with rivets — if they are not fully seated, they can spin in place.
- Rivets must be secure — spinning rivets prevent the Top Tracks from tightening properly and compromise the entire system.
- Sealant application is critical — prevents long-term moisture issues.
