Thule Evo WingBar Roof Rack Installation on a 2023 Toyota RAV4

Shop Roof Rack Systems

The Toyota RAV4 is a compact SUV that’s extremely popular for driving in Calgary and heading out for camping, paddling, and mountain adventures across Alberta. With raised rails and fixed mounting points, it’s rack-ready but requires the correct system and fit kit for a secure install. For this setup, our team installed a Thule Evo WingBar system paired with a fixed point connection. The result is a strong, versatile base rack ready for carrying bikes, cargo boxes, and in this case, a canoe for highway travel that we also helped tie down.

Clean, Secure Fit on the Toyota RAV4

This Toyota RAV4 features raised rails with integrated fixed mounting points. Because of this design, the rack system uses a vehicle-specific fit kit that bolts directly into the rail system for maximum strength and stability.

The Thule Evo system uses fixed-point feet combined with aerodynamic WingBar crossbars. Once installed, the bars sit evenly across the vehicle and provide a solid platform for heavier loads like canoes while maintaining excellent compatibility with other accessories.

What We Installed on This Toyota RAV4

Why This Rack Setup Works for Calgary Drivers

  • Direct fixed point connection for maximum strength and stability
  • WingBar design reduces wind noise on long highway drives
  • Perfect for carrying canoes, kayaks, and outdoor gear
  • Reliable performance in Alberta conditions including wind and highway travel

Important Fit Note: Toyota RAV4 Fixed Point Systems

Some vehicles, including the Toyota RAV4, use fixed mounting points that require partial assembly into the factory rails. This means the correct fit kit is critical for proper installation and long-term performance.

Not sure which roof configuration your RAV4 has? Our team will confirm everything before recommending the right system.

Professional Installation by Our Calgary Team

This fixed point system requires a bit more preparation than standard setups. Pre-install took approximately 20 minutes due to the fit kit needing to be bolted into the rails, while the final installation took about 10 minutes.

During installation, we ensured the crossbars were evenly adjusted left to right for a balanced and secure load. For this customer’s Esquif Adirondack Lite Solo Canoe, we completed a full tie-down setup:

  • Two cam buckle straps secured over the body of the canoe
  • Front and rear rope tie-downs to stabilize the load at highway speeds
  • Careful positioning to protect the vehicle and ensure safe transport
