Thule Evo WingBar & Canyon XT Roof Basket Installation on a Ford F-350
The Ford F-350 is a heavy-duty truck built for work, towing, and adventure across Alberta. Whether it's hauling gear to a job site, transporting equipment around Calgary and Edmonton, or heading into the mountains for a weekend getaway, additional roof-mounted storage can make a huge difference.
For this installation, our team equipped the F-350 with a Thule Evo WingBar roof rack system and a Thule Canyon XT cargo basket with the Canyon Extension. This setup provides a large, secure platform for carrying bulky gear while maintaining excellent durability and versatility for year-round use.
Clean, Secure Fit on the Ford F-350
This Ford F-350 required a clamp-mounted roof rack system using vehicle-specific components designed to match the truck's roof profile. Proper component selection is critical for achieving a secure attachment point and ensuring long-term reliability when carrying heavier loads.
The Thule Evo WingBar system uses aerodynamic aluminum load bars combined with the Evo Clamp Foot Pack and vehicle-specific fit kit. Once installed, the bars provide a strong foundation for the cargo baskets and anything else this adventurer wants to haul.
What We Installed on This Ford F-350
- Thule Evo WingBar 150 (60") - Silver
- Thule Evo Clamp Foot Pack
- Thule Fit Kit For Evo/Edge Clamp 145271
- Thule One-Key System 8 Pack
- Thule Canyon XT
- Thule Canyon Extension
The addition of the Canyon Extension significantly increases the cargo basket's carrying area, making it ideal for larger camping gear, recovery equipment, coolers, duffel bags, and other oversized cargo often carried by F-350 owners.

Why This Rack Setup Works for Calgary and Edmonton Drivers
- Large cargo basket capacity for work gear and outdoor equipment
- Aerodynamic WingBar design helps reduce wind noise
- Vehicle-specific clamp system provides a secure roof attachment
- Excellent for camping, overlanding, hunting, fishing, and road trips throughout Alberta
For Alberta drivers who regularly carry gear beyond what fits in the truck bed, a roof-mounted cargo basket creates valuable extra storage space. It is especially useful for keeping dirty, bulky, or weather-resistant equipment outside the cab while preserving bed space for larger loads.
Important Fit Note: Canyon XT Assembly and Installation
The Thule Canyon XT and Canyon Extension require more assembly time than many rooftop accessories. The basket and extension typically take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to assemble before mounting onto the vehicle.
Once assembled, installation on the vehicle can range from 40 minutes to over an hour depending on vehicle height, access, and final basket positioning.
Each corner of the Canyon XT is secured using a two-bolt bracket, followed by a two-bolt U-bolt mounting assembly that clamps directly around the load bars.
One of the most important installation details is ensuring every mounting bracket is perfectly flat and centered before tightening hardware. If the mounts are not aligned correctly, installing the lock cores and face plates can become extremely difficult and may require disassembly and adjustment.
Taking the extra time during assembly results in a cleaner installation, easier lock operation, and a more secure overall setup.

Professional Installation by Our Calgary & Edmonton Teams
Our team completed this installation with the same attention to detail we bring to every roof rack project:
- Verified the correct clamp system and fit kit for the vehicle
- Measured bar placement for optimal basket support
- Carefully assembled the Canyon XT and Canyon Extension
- Aligned all basket mounting hardware for proper lock installation
- Installed the One-Key locking system
- Torqued all fasteners to manufacturer specifications
Large cargo baskets can place significant loads on a roof rack system. Proper assembly and installation help maximize stability, reduce noise, and ensure safe operation on highways, back roads, and Alberta's changing seasonal conditions.
