Thule Evo Clamp Roof Rack Installation on a 2018 Honda HR-V
The 2018 Honda HR-V is a compact SUV that is extremely popular for commuting in Calgary and weekend adventures into the Rockies. With a bare roof and no factory rails, it is rack-ready only with the correct clamp-style system and a vehicle-specific fit kit. For this installation, our Calgary team set up a Thule Evo Clamp system paired with Thule Evo WingBar 135 load bars. The result is a strong, clean base rack ready for bikes, skis, cargo boxes, and summer camping gear across Alberta.
Dialled-In Roof Rack Fit on the 2018 Honda HR-V
The 2018 HR-V features a smooth bare roof without raised or flush rails. Because of this design, the rack system must attach using a precision-engineered clamp system that connects securely to the vehicle’s door frame using a model-specific fit kit.
The Thule Evo Clamp Foot Pack combined with the Fit Kit 145175 is designed specifically for this generation HR-V. Once installed, the black WingBar Evo 135 crossbars sit level and aerodynamic, delivering a near-factory appearance while maintaining excellent load capacity and reduced wind noise.

What We Installed on This 2018 Honda HR-V
Why This Rack Setup Works for Calgary Drivers
- Direct fit for bare roof HR-V models using vehicle-specific fit kit
- Aerodynamic WingBar design reduces wind noise on Deerfoot and Stoney Trail
- Compatible with bike racks, ski carriers, cargo boxes, and kayak mounts
- Strong and reliable for four-season Alberta weather including snow and wind

Important Fit Note: Correct Measurements Matter on the HR-V
Proper bar placement is critical on the 2018 Honda HR-V. For this installation, we carefully measured from the front edge of the windshield to position the front crossbar. The rear bar placement was then measured from the front bar to achieve the correct crossbar spread specified by Thule.
Pre-assembly of the bars, foot pack, and fit kit took approximately 10 minutes thanks to clearly labeled components and straightforward instructions. On-vehicle installation required another 10 minutes once measurements were confirmed. While this system is DIY-friendly, precise measurements and proper torque ensure long-term performance and safety.
Professional Installation by Our Calgary Team
Our team completed this HR-V installation with the same process we use on every roof rack system:
- Verified the correct Thule fit kit for the 2018 model year
- Measured and set accurate crossbar spacing
- Checked door seal compression and clearance
- Torqued all fasteners to Thule specifications
Year-to-year changes can affect roof rack fit, even within the same vehicle generation. Using the correct fit kit is essential for safe and secure performance.
