Thule Edge Roof Rack Installation on a 2022 Toyota Highlander

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is a popular midsize SUV for Calgary families who need extra cargo space for road trips, camping, and four-season adventures in Alberta. With factory fixed mounting points hidden beneath plastic covers, the Highlander is rack-ready when paired with the correct vehicle-specific components. For this install, our Calgary team set up a Thule Edge fixed-point roof rack system with low-profile WingBar Edge crossbars, finished off with a Thule Motion 3 XXL cargo box for maximum storage capacity and a clean factory-style appearance.

Clean, Secure Fit on the Toyota Highlander
This Toyota Highlander features factory fixed mounting points concealed under four plastic roof caps. Once removed, the mounting hardware is exposed, allowing the Thule Edge system to bolt directly into the vehicle’s reinforced roof structure using a dedicated fit kit.
After removing the caps, the installation process involved securing the metal clamp and rubber mounting base, then attaching the Edge foot packs directly to the ends of the WingBar Edge crossbars. Once positioned on the vehicle, tightening and final alignment were quick and precise, resulting in a solid, low-profile rack with excellent load stability.

What We Installed on This 2022 Toyota Highlander
- Thule Edge Fixed Point Rail Footpack
- Thule WingBar Edge Crossbar – 104 cm (Black)
- Thule Fit Kit for Evo/Edge Fixpoint 187100
- Thule Motion 3 XXL Cargo Box
- Thule One-Key System (4-Pack)

Why This Rack Setup Works for Calgary Drivers
- Direct fixed-point fitment designed specifically for the Highlander
- Low-profile WingBar Edge design for reduced wind noise and clean aesthetics
- Motion 3 XXL cargo box provides massive storage for family trips
- Excellent hatch clearance when installed and positioned correctly
Important Fit Note: Rear Hatch Clearance
With large cargo boxes like the Thule Motion 3 XXL, checking rear hatch clearance is critical. During this installation, clearance was verified before final tightening and again once the box was mounted. On the Highlander, proper bar positioning ensures the rear hatch opens fully without contacting the box.
Always confirm clearance during installation—especially when using longer cargo boxes— to avoid damage to both the vehicle and accessories.

Professional Installation by Our Calgary Team
This installation was completed efficiently and correctly by our Calgary technicians, with careful attention paid to the finer details that matter long-term:
- Verified correct fit kit and hardware for the 2022 model year
- Ensured the inner securing bolts were tightened to prevent side-to-side bar movement
- Checked rear hatch clearance with the cargo box fully mounted
- Torqued all fasteners to Thule manufacturer specifications
