Custom Installation of a Tepui Kukenam 4 Rooftop Tent on a Work Trailer
A rooftop tent can transform a work trailer into a capable overlanding and camping setup, providing comfortable sleeping accommodations wherever the job or adventure takes you. For this project, our team completed a custom installation of a Tepui Ruggedized Kukenam 4 Offroad Tent Expedition Orange on a work trailer, creating a durable and expedition-ready camping solution for Alberta's backroads and remote destinations.
Unlike many modern rooftop tents, this older-style Tepui model requires assembly and installation of the mounting rails before it can be secured to the trailer. Due to the tent's size and weight, along with the height of the trailer, specialized equipment was required to safely complete the installation. The finished setup provides a rugged camping platform that's ideal for exploring Alberta's mountains, forestry roads, and remote work locations.
Custom Tent Installation on a Work Trailer
This installation required significantly more assembly than many current rooftop tent models. To access the mounting locations, the tent first had to be unzipped and opened to expose the underside of the tent floor. From there, the mounting rails were carefully positioned and secured according to the manufacturer's specifications.
Once the rails were installed, the ladder assembly was mounted and bolted into place. The outer weather cover was then slid into position and zipped onto the tent, completing the tent assembly before mounting onto the trailer.

Important Fit Note: Older Rooftop Tent Installation Requirements
Many older rooftop tents require assembly of the mounting rails before installation can begin. Unlike newer systems that often arrive preassembled, these tents require access to the interior floor structure to properly secure the mounting hardware.
Additionally, rooftop tents can be surprisingly heavy. Depending on the mounting height and vehicle or trailer configuration, specialized lifting equipment may be required to safely position the tent for installation.
Professional Installation by Our Calgary & Edmonton Team
This installation required careful planning and specialized equipment. Due to the height of the trailer and the weight of the tent, our team used a forklift to safely lift and position the rooftop tent onto the trailer rack system.
- Verified mounting rail placement and alignment
- Installed and secured ladder assembly
- Used forklift-assisted lifting for safe positioning
- Mounted tent hardware and torqued all fasteners to specification
Once the tent was positioned over the crossbars, installation proceeded quickly as the mounting hardware was slid into place and secured. The result is a clean, durable installation built to handle years of use throughout Alberta.
